Sometimes when you buy some used things on eBay you may find an extra something or other that you weren’t initially expecting. Well that’s exactly what happened to an IT Manager who paid £35 for a second hand NAS box. Note for non-techie people NAS according to wikipedia is a Network attaches storage device. Basically it’s a very very large hard drive(s) where people at a corporation or business can store their files.

He discovered that he had bank information on over a million people.

Unbeknown to Chapman, the machine contained personal bank account and credit card information on over one million American Express, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), and NatWest customers.

It is a good thing that this was an honest, and upright IT manager. If someone had purchased those same hard drives and they weren’t upright citizens they would have access to millions of people’s credit card and banking information. And who knows what kind of nefarious things they would do.

This is a great reminder for folks to make sure that your personal information is secure as well as checking on the security of your own information because sometimes the banks that we “trust” automatically may not be taking care of our personal information as much as we’d like.

You may have encountered placing a bid on ebay on the last minute of the auction. You have the highest bid so far and is excited to win the bid but all of a sudden it turned out somebody else won and you don’t know exactly why it happened. Well it’s simple, you’ve been sniped!

Sniping is the fine art of outbidding your competition in the very last seconds of the auction — without leaving them enough time to place a defensive bid. Sniping is my number one favorite way to win an auction on eBay. When I first touted this method in 1999, it was a fairly new idea. Now everyone knows about sniping, and it’s pretty much an accepted bidding method. Bidders (that is, losing bidders) whine and moan when they lose to a sniper, but they should remember one thing: The high bidder always wins, whether you’re sniping or using the automatic bid system. If you’re going to snipe, assume that the current bidder has a very high dollar proxy bid in the works. Some eBay members consider the practice of sniping unseemly and uncivilized — like when dozens of parents used to mob the department store clerks to get to the handful of Cabbage Patch dolls that were just delivered. (Come to think of it, whatever happened to those collectibles?)

Of course, sometimes a little uncivilized behavior can be a hoot. Sniping is an addictive, fun part of life on eBay. I recommend that you try it. You’re likely to benefit from the results and enjoy your eBay experience even more — especially if you’re an adrenaline junkie.

You can feel it, the weather is cold but the people are warm. Hmmm, isn’t it funny? Well, I guess it has nothing to do with the weather. I guess it’s just that when people think of Christmas, they think of LOVE. We think of others. We become SELFLESS for a little while. We think of GIVING a part of ourselves. Sometimes we think of Christmas as purely giftgiving but actually it’s just an icing on the cake and there is something more meaningful to it. When you realize the way Christ gives His SELFLESS life to US. You will have a better grasp of why you should give away even a little of your SELF for others. I have tried a few years back to encouraging my friends to join me in going to an orphanage and giving children some clothes, slippers, toys, small gifts. We gave them a small party and games where we ourselves also participated. I thought I will be making the kids happy with it but it turned out the opposite. They are the ones who made me happy. I realized, I had been so selfish my whole life. I realized, I could have the most expensive thing but still aren’t contented. But these kids, you can give them the cheapest thing you can buy in the market. And they are the happiest people on earth. So, everytime I read something about supporting a noble cause, I’m on it, 100%. And if I have to spread the word a million times, I’ll do it. I salute ebay’s giving works project. How about you? Can you also make a difference? Yes, even in your own little way. How? Shop at ebay. Look for the ebay ribbon. When you buy an item with a ribbon in it, you are giving a portion of your payment to charities or organizations that support a worthy cause. If you want more, do what I did. Find a group where you can do a noble cause for others. You will not only make people happy but indeed you will find meaning in your life!
